Code of Conduct

Last Updated: March 2026

By participating in any service offered by AF Dance NZ, you agree to uphold the following standards. These guidelines ensure a safe, inclusive, and professional environment for our entire community.

1. COMMUNITY & RESPECT

  • Professionalism: Treat all students, instructors, and staff with kindness and patience. We welcome dancers of all levels and backgrounds.

  • Class Etiquette: To ensure a productive learning environment, please follow the instructor’s structure and refrain from giving unsolicited corrections or "teaching" other students during class.

  • Personal Hygiene: As dance is a close-contact activity, please maintain high standards of personal hygiene and wear appropriate, clean dance attire.

  • Solicitation: Promoting external businesses, events, or competing dance classes within the studio without prior written approval from management is prohibited.

2. CONSENT & PERSONAL BOUNDARIES

  • Physical Contact: All dance contact must be consensual. Respect your partner’s physical boundaries and comfort levels at all times.

  • Right of Refusal: Every member has the right to decline a dance or a specific move. We encourage a culture where "no" is respected without question.

  • Zero Tolerance: Harassment, bullying, discrimination, or inappropriate advances will result in immediate removal from the studio and potential termination of membership.

3. STUDIO SAFETY

  • Floor Awareness: Be mindful of those around you. Avoid moves that could cause injury to yourself, your partner, or others on the floor.

  • Tricks & Lifts: Do not attempt lifts, drops, or aerials unless they are part of a supervised choreography or explicitly permitted by an instructor.

  • Health Disclosure: Please inform your instructor of any injuries or health concerns before the session begins.

  • Substances: Attending classes while under the influence of alcohol or illegal substances is strictly prohibited.

4. PROPERTY & FACILITIES

  • Care of Premises: Respect our facilities and equipment. Members may be held liable for damage caused to studio property through negligence.

  • Personal Items: Please keep the dance floor clear of bags and gear. AF Dance NZ is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

  • Food & Drink: Water is permitted on the dance floor; however, all food and other beverages must stay in the designated lounge or kitchen areas.

5. MEDIA & INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

  • Privacy: Respect the privacy of your fellow dancers. Do not film or photograph others without their express permission.

  • Choreography: Routines taught at AF Dance NZ are the intellectual property of the school. They are for personal practice only and may not be taught elsewhere or used for commercial gain without written consent.

6. RAISING CONCERNS

  • If you witness or experience behaviour that breaches this Code, please speak to an AF Dance instructor immediately or email us at info@afdance.co.nz. All reports will be handled with discretion and fairness.

  • Please refer to our Complaints Procedure for details on how to submit a formal report.

7. COMPLIANCE

  • AF Dance NZ reserves the right to refuse entry or terminate the membership of any individual who fails to comply with this Code of Conduct.
